Newcastle United have placed a bid for Valenciennes FC defender Gaёtan Bong Songo, according to Valenciennes club president Jean-Raymond Legrand. Bong was born in Sakbayeme, Cameroon, and has played for the Cameroon international team. The 24 year old has French citizenship and began his career in the youth team at FC Metz before going to Tours FC on loan for the 2008/09 season.
