Newcastle are said to be considering a summer move for young striker Rodrigo Moreno Machado – simply known as Rodrigo. The 21-year-old is currently plying his trade at Benfica. He has made 28 appearances and scored 13 goals since joining the Portuguese club in 2010. During his time at the Primeira Liga side he has also been out on loan to Bolton – during the 2010/11 season (the one before they got relegated from the Premier League). He only scored one goal under Owen Coyle in the 17 appearances that he made. Born in Brazil, Rodrigo moved to Spain in his teenage years. At the age of 18, he joined Real Madrid from Celta de Vigo. He made his way through their youth system, and featured for the Real Madrid C team and then the Real Madrid B team before moving to Benfica. Rodrigo has also made an impression on the international stage; with an impressive record of 12 goals in ten appearances for Spain at under-21 level. The striker scored a hat-trick on his debut for the under-21 side in Georgia for the 2013 European Championship qualifiers. Is this young striker the sort of player that you’d like to see join Newcastle? Let us know your thoughts?
