Newcastle United spent a lot in the January transfer window. and Alan Pardew’s French reinforcements have been the catalyst they needed to steer them away from the relegation zone. Almost instantaneously after the transfer window opened Newcastle lost their top scorer, as Demba Ba was bought by Chelsea when they triggered a release clause in his contract. His roster was plagued with issues.Alan Pardew needed to do something fast or face a relegation battle.His first task was to improve a leaking defence, and for that he first called upon Mathieu Debuchy Newcastle failed to land the right back from Lille in the summer transfer window, and Yohan Cabaye was seen as the bolster the defence needed. And Alan Pardew did not give up on landing his target as he became Newcastle’s first signing of the January transfer window. Newcastle were quick to add to their defencive reinforcements and Montpellier and Nancy were to be their next ports of call as they secured the services of Mapou Yanga-Mwbia and left back Massadio Haidara. The next problem to rectify on Alan Pardew's list was the lack of goals his team had been scoring, and it didn't take long for the new boys in the black and white stripes to find their flavour of premiership goals. Young French winger Yoan Gouffran made an instant impact at his new club and found his way straight into Alan Pardew's starting eleven. Whilst a Bordeaux player, Gouffran had seen his former teammates take on Newcastle United in the Europa League. But after joining the Magpies it did not take long for him to find his goals scoring boots, finding the net in only his second away outing against Tottenham Hotspur. It was Moussa Sissoko that proved to be Alan Pardew's major catalyst. The box-to-box midfielder slotted straight into the centre of Newcastle's midfield alongside fellow countryman Yohan Cabaye, and he made an immediate creative impact. Having provided some fantastic passes and through balls to get other players on the score sheet, it was the home fixture against Chelsea that gave Sissoko the chance to shine. After the lead thanks to Jonas Gutierrez, Newcastle were penned back by goals from Frank Lampard and Juan Mata. But then came the style of Sissoko, and after scoring the equaliser, he pulled off a fantastic strike to take three points for Newcastle. The French Revolution, as Tyneside calls it, has nine French players in Alan Pardew’s first team, with almost all of them being capped by the national team. With the new signings joining Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveux, Gabriel Obertan and Hatem Ben Arfa who already fly the tricolore for Les Blues at St James. After the transfer window improvements results have started to fall Newcastle’s way. These improvements could be the ones to get Newcastle back into the top half of the premiership table, as they are now six points clear of the relegation zone.
